Our new MPEG-4-based codec called 3ivx is doing well.
Very well.
You probably heard of DivX ;-) as a movie compression
format. And indeed it's great. But we [the whole 3ivx.com
team, under the supervising eye of Mr. Stux who has created
the DivX ;-) Player for Mac] want to offer the best and
most versatile codec. Our goal is to optimize video compression
to the smallest possible file size, of a high quality
and fully streamable, targeting all important segments
of the wired and wireless markets [movie-distribution,
set-top boxes, Video-On-Demand, video conferencing, Internet
TV программа, in-flight entertainment, game consoles, UMTS, etc.].
The current release is 5 to 20% better than the most efficient
codecs out there. In comparison with MPEG-2, 3ivx has
a ratio of 1:12 while near DVD quality.
3ivx preview versions are already true multi-platform,
so the same file is available for:
• Windows: Windows Media Player plug-in or QuickTime plug-in
• MacOS: QuickTime plug-in
• Linux (x86, PPC) & Solaris: XAnim
• BeOS (x86): Media Player plug-in
• Amiga: WarpUP (MooVId for 68k & PPC) and PowerUP
(SoftCinema)
As our 3ivx codec is based on the 2001 MPEG-4 framework
all related services like Digital Rights Management, encryption,
payment systems, ... are possible.
Our codec is yet in the optimization status ... so ...
more improvements to come.
